(& other assorted inspirational phrases)

Simply put, life is hard. It’s been a slow and emotionally trying road, but I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that you can’t kick butt 100% of the time. Very closely mirroring the very industry in which I work, life ebbs…and life flows. But most importantly, life goes ON. To get my mind right on an “ebb day,” there are a few inspirational phrases (to which I’ve added a Shaina twist) that I regularly consult to put me back in a “flow” state of mind. Let’s explore, shall we?

  1. Go Your Own Way

If this sounds familiar, we should probably hang out more. But in all seriousness, YES, I maaaaay have borrowed this from the legendary Fleetwood Mac. As a reward for calling me out, you will now have this snazzy little number stuck in your head for the rest of the day. You’re welcome. Anyway…I of course redefined this little four-word phrase & I so strongly align with its new meaning that I ACTUALLY had it tattooed on my body: “As long as you’re happy with the path you’ve chosen, you’ll always be moving in the right direction.”

When in doubt, just ask yourself: Are you happy? If the answer is “yes,” you’ll be alright, kid.

  1. Life’s Not About Being Perfect; It’s About Recovering from your Mistakes with Grace

Inspired by a nifty little typo in a Complex tweet, this Shaina Signature quote has become one of my sure favorites. We’re so used to hearing “practice makes perfect” and that we should strive for perfection, but a smooth sea never made a skillful sailor. Mistakes happen. An occasional “whoopsie” is HEALTHY, as long as you learn from it and you recover gracefully. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT have a meltdown! Take a deep breath, assess the situation, and make that “whoopsie” look like it was part of your plan all along. Recover with grace, you beautiful creature.

  1. You Are Everything

Some days start with a burnt bagel and 45 minutes of traffic, only to be followed up by 8 hours of alternating inability to write the perfect caption and creating graphics that even my dog would laugh at. On those days, I call on THIS gem: YOU ARE EVERYTHING. It’s your classic “find a mirror, look yourself in the eye, and pep talk until you’re blue in the face.”

MAYBE toasters aren’t my strong suit, but guess what? There are microwaves, ovens, and if all else fails…Lunchables.

Turn that frown upside down, honey. There’s life to be lived, work to get done, and fun to be had.
