These days, it seems there is a “national day” for everything. There’s National Oyster Day, National Strawberry Ice Cream Day, and even National Beer Day (a favorite of mine). But yesterday, April 26, was a special national day, it was National Pretzel Day and Culinary Dropout (CDO) in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino tasked us with hosting a small “influencer” event in honor of the day and their famous Pretzels & Fondue dish.
Culinary Dropout is a cool, gastro-pub chain with quirky décor, live music and serves inventive cocktails and comfort food, and they are ALL about their pretzels and fondue. The team comprised of Brigitte, Morgan and I had three weeks to pull it all together.
First, the brainstorming session. Who are these influencers? What’s the atmosphere going to be like? What are we going to serve? The goal was to have a great time and create some buzz on national pretzel day about CDO and the best pretzels and fondue available in Vegas. The right mix of people is key, so we made sure to include a variety of social influencers including foodies and lifestyle bloggers, a few Vegas socialites, with a few members of the media peppered in.
We created an Evite in Canva as well as contacted a few people over social media platforms. Once the invite was sent out and the RSVP’s started rolling in, we followed up with info and directions to CDO on the property.
We ordered props that would help set the scene for the day including giant pretzel pool floats, big pretzel balloons, pretzel and chalkboard selfie props that we wrote various fun hashtags on for the influencers to use throughout the evening. #CDOVegas, #NationalPretzelDay, #ILovePretzels and #YUMMM, etc.
No great party is complete without great food and cocktails. We worked with the CDO team to set the menu which included Soft Pretzels & Provolone Fondue (obvi) skewered together in the shape of a hashtag, BBQ Pork Belly Nachos, Thai Chili Chicken Wings, and a bonus Charcuterie Board brought out by CDO Chef Joe Godell. To keep guests thirsts properly quenched the Dropout Classic Mule, Smashed Irishman and CDO’s Paperbag Special beer (who knows what you’re going to get?) was served.
No event in this modern day is complete without its own Snapchat geofilter, so three different filters were created for the day.
To set the mood, a band was out at the REHAB pool playing great rock and roll so we were able to enjoy some live music. The influencers were also able to partake in the backyard style game of cornhole while hanging out during the evening.
KDC and the Hard Rock Hotel both supported the event through their social media channels, and we were also able to land the famous pretzels and fondue in-studio on TV at KTNV “The Morning Blend” and KLAS “Las Vegas Now” earlier in the day.
Overall, the event was a success and I was so proud of Morgan and Brigitte for doing a stellar job. This was my kind of work event, an “only in Vegas” event with a celebrity tattoo artist, a professional BMX rider, a beatboxer and foodies among other walks of life. The best part is getting to network with those cool, interesting people, nosh on great food and drinks, in a chill tropical backyard setting, all in the name of pretzels. #DontGetItTwisted, we work hard, and if you’re having fun, it’s the best of both worlds!
